Demos for Primary Genres
“With a voice that’s affable, earnest, and mellow, Karen is
like a captivating tour guide on your most enjoyable vacation.”
Compelling: A professional voiceover talent since 1999, I now work almost exclusively in audiobooks and prefer clean reads. Since I’m an Atlanta native, books set in the South and/or starring Southern characters are a natural fit for me. I love to laugh and have a great sense of humor, so I especially shine in comedic reads such as the Dixie Divas cozy mystery series. I also have excelled in narrating biography (3 stellar reviews from AudioFile Magazine), history, self-development, and other Non-Fiction titles. I bring the emotion in the subtext into each word.

Committed: I’m an Audible Approved Producer who has produced and recorded 70+ titles in my soundproof studio. In addition to earning a BA in Broadcast Journalism, Magna Cum Laude, and an MS in Computer Information Systems, I am an alumnus of the prestigious Harvard CopyrightX program. I also have completed and continue to undertake extensive specialized training and coaching in voiceover and audiobook narration technique, as well as digital audio production using Pro Tools software. I have taken beginning courses in Spanish, French, and German, and I study accents as needed. I have a director and editor for every project.

Communicator: I like to say, “You can’t spell Communications without Commins!” Even in my previous IT positions, my strong communications skills were highly praised. Not only did I manage large-scale systems and projects and keep everyone well-informed, but I frequently taught people how to use their computers and software. In addition to writing articles on my blog and elsewhere, I’m well known by narrators for the advice I’ve offered and knowledge I’ve shared in Facebook groups, emails, and private consultations. As a narrator, I love interpreting the words on the printed page and creating a pristine recording that allows today’s ultra busy people to take a mental vacation.

Whether you want to be a narrator or already are one, my site NarratorsRoadmap.com is THE destination for audiobook narrators of all levels!
